i attended a montessori school that taught pre-k - 8th grade. I only attended during my 7th and 8th grade years, but it wasnt much different that public school. I did notice that kids where really smart, there were kids in pre-k that were reading on a 1st grade level. The parents that would apply there kids would camp out just to make sure their kids got in.

Monstessori is great. They have incredible imaginations, are very creative, which is needed for the future thinkers of the world. I have seen so much success with their system of schooling. It is wonderful.

@k1rubino 1) The longer they stay in the Montessori system the more likely they'll be going to a top college 2) All sorts but no matter what professions, they're usually seen as leadership material 3) lol, more than ready for SATs 4) It's been documented that Montessori students, on average, do much better than students of tradition education presentation. They do the same thing regular schools do; the only difference is the delivery method of presenting the education. Great 4 ANY kid

@ricechas that is totally not true at all. Perhaps it was your short stint that aided in your problems of readjusting but it is widely documented that Montessori students are more advanced on average in college than students from the regular traditional way of education presentation and anyways, students do have readjusted issues from school to school regardless of what kind of school. It is a brilliant system. We scraped the $ together for our kids and it's worth every single penny.

There are schools that will take infants. They have materials to help muscular coordination like kicking balls or pulleys, and various things to build awareness like low mirrors and activities where they follow a ball with their eyes as it rolls inside a box. However, if you want to make sure a child has the full benefit of a Montessori education, they must be in by 3 or 4 years old. 5 is a stretch. By 6 many "sensitive periods" are over, and it becomes much harder. 3-6 is very important.

My 3yr old son attends montessori in Sydney Australia..and its? the best thing to ever happen to him..he absolutely loves it, he adores his teachers, his teachers adore him, its a warm learning environment...and they genuinely care for each individual childs needs..i dont feel anxious leaving him behind because i TRUST his teachers who make sure that he is safe. The children are nurtured and loved, they become confident within themselves and successful later in life...

Because we dont have teachers who are ready to spend so much time with children, who arnt paid properlz for there serveses. Schools such as this are integrated into the surrounding and use the sources of the town they are in... And familys have to interact on a higher level with the school. towards the end of this film i got quite emotional. this concept seems so logical..let the child explore at their own pace. I feel kinda cheated i went to a "average/normal" school. I hope I can find a school that adopts such methods for my son. I am very much a visual person that learns from experience rather than being TOLD what I should think or learn. I never had such freedom to learn at my own pace. Shame.

Oh my, sorry for your bad experience. I totally disagree. I think if you spend at least 3 years in early childhood or early el in a SOLID, true Montessori program it teaches you how to learn and that learning can happen where ever. I attended Montessori school from kindergarten through 4th grade, and had no trouble transitioning to traditional public school. In fact, I loved school until high school. So, don't discount a good Montessori program!

I personally think, having been to a montessori school, that although it was a beatiful experience, I was only there for a short time, and when I went to "big school" if you will, it was a completely different experience, there was pressure, deadlines, coursework, and it was seldom hands on. There is no point in sending your child to a montessori pre-school if you don't intend on continuing in montessori, it's a big schock to the system, a shock I'm still getting over!

I really like this video and feel that it showcases so many wonderful things about the Montessori curriculum. For example, there seemed to be a special needs boy in the classroom. Although the misconception is that Montessori is for "normal" children, this video shows that Montessori is for everyone!

There are a lot of religions predating judaism, or which formed independent of it - buddhism, hinduism, etc. Hinduism in particular predates modern judaism by quite a lot. This is actually one of the rare times when a propaganda film is actually really accurate. In fact if anything, it omits some of the worst details of the upbringings of german kids - such as when kids participated in executions, even playing with dead body parts of victims. Or the fact that CHILD SOLDIERS were sent in as cannon fodder to die by the thousands as the war was nearing its end.

I work with youth in an after school program and found that some of the obvious basics like a camel and a kangaroo couldn't be identified by intelligent inner city youth that were supposedly "on the honor roll". It is a problem and we as adults need to remember that knowlege is not inherited but passed on. Don't wait on T.V., the internet or teachers to do our job.

Well Said! I agree. My children received a Montessori education for 5 yrs & loved every minute of it! They eagerly craved learning. They were the only children in our neighborhood missing school on their breaks. Montessori children are respected as a whole by the purest form of education available. Just as each parent cherishes their child's 1st smile to their 1st words... so too does the Montessori Way of education with their gentle and nurturing guidance, that creates a Love of Learning =)

To your questions I say yes and no. For one thing High School is a lot different than Jr. High so your problems will probably be gone by then. Anyways these "packets" only come around every now and then and all they do is point out the kids who aren't doing well in school. Yeah I get a lot of HW too, but that's life. It's no big deal and it's not robbing your youth. At a montessori school there's no HW and little responsibility. It's good for elementary but then all i can do is cause damage.

I do not attend any Montessori Schools at the moment, but I have researched and have found this to be Montessori's original method. So you are implying that dumping packets and unnecessary loads of school work on children is the way to go? I am in the Jr.High, and I think I am bombarded with homework that takes up more than half of my time to do. I find it too buearocratic. I understand the need to learn the great skill of responsibility. But don't you think enough is enough?

If your 14 years old, why are you still in montessori school? I went to one from the ages of 6-10 and looking back, I'd say that montessori was the best education that I could receive, but only at that age. I left because my parents realized that montessori is really only effective for little children. As a teenager there's not much left for them to get out of a montessori education.

I am not judging your ideas, nor do I deny them and your points to be irrational. But I do believe in the methods that she teaches for teens does prepare them for their society ahead of them. This basic method teaches kids how to be in the actual community, and learn through actual expirience what responsibilites and ample knowledge comes with it. Yes, the methods for more undeveloped children does not prepare them, but I do believe that the teen methods do. -Hannah, 14 years old.

While some schools may be affiliated with a faith, the vast majority of Montessori schools are independent and nonsectarian. The spirituality that I mention has to do with one's sense that we are part of the web of life, that the Earth is part the cosmos, and that we are all part of the human family. We seek to inspire a sense of wonder, global understanding, a tradition of giving back to our communities through service, and a sense of personal integrity and peace.
